Making Your Smile Gorgeous

A few years ago, I started thinking carefully about what I could do to improve my smile. I had lived with crooked, yellowed teeth for most of my adult life, and honestly, I just wanted to feel beautiful. I started thinking about working with a cosmetic dentist, and before I knew it, I was in an office getting a complimentary consultation. I learned about a variety of different procedures that could improve my look, and it was really fun. I wanted to create a blog all about making smiles more beautiful, which is why I made this website. Check out this blog for great information about dentistry.

Signs You Should See An Orthodontist As An Adult

People often think of orthodontists as treating kids and teens. Indeed, it is common for children and teens to receive orthodontic treatment in the form of braces and retainers. But orthodontists do work on adult patients, too. How do you know that you, as an adult, could benefit from orthodontic treatment?

Here are some indicators that you should an appointment with a local orthodontist.

You're unhappy with the way your smile looks

Do you hide your smile or avoid smiling in front of people? Maybe you always close your mouth for photos, or perhaps you often hold something up in front of your mouth when you talk. You don't deserve to have to hide your smile — you deserve to smile proudly and let others see you do it! An orthodontist can take a look at your teeth and let you know what it would take to straighten them so you're more confident in your smile. You may not even need braces; invisible aligners have become excellent at straightening teeth in adults.

Your teeth are moving back into their pre-braces position

Perhaps you had braces or another orthodontic device when you were young, but your teeth are now shifting back towards their original positions. This happens a lot in people who don't wear their retainers consistently as they get older. Even if you still have your retainer, it's a good idea to see an orthodontist rather than just pop the retainer back in. Retainers are not designed to move teeth, but rather to keep them in place. The orthodontist may recommend you wear braces for another few months, or they may put you in some invisible aligners to move your teeth back into place. You can then follow this up with a retainer.

Your bite is not lining up

Do you feel like your bite is misaligned? Do you have trouble biting into certain things or chewing in certain ways? If so, you may benefit from consulting an orthodontist, who can recommend braces or other methods to realign your bite. It's important that you're able to bite into your food comfortably, and orthodontic treatment can do that for you.

It's a good idea to see an orthodontist as an adult who struggles with any of the issues above. These dental specialists can do a lot for you, and you'll be smiling proudly in no time once you receive their care.
