Making Your Smile Gorgeous

A few years ago, I started thinking carefully about what I could do to improve my smile. I had lived with crooked, yellowed teeth for most of my adult life, and honestly, I just wanted to feel beautiful. I started thinking about working with a cosmetic dentist, and before I knew it, I was in an office getting a complimentary consultation. I learned about a variety of different procedures that could improve my look, and it was really fun. I wanted to create a blog all about making smiles more beautiful, which is why I made this website. Check out this blog for great information about dentistry.

2 Advantages Replacing Your Missing Teeth With Dental Implants Instead Of Bridges

If you have a few missing teeth, you may be searching for the ideal way to fill them in so that you can smile confidently once again. While researching your options, you may have come across a couple from which you could choose that include either dental implants or bridges. If you are trying to decide on how to fill in your missing teeth, consider the following advantages of getting dental implants instead of bridges.

1.  Implants Do Not Damage the Adjacent Teeth

When dental bridges are placed in the mouth, they have brackets on either side of them that attach to the adjoining teeth. Since these brackets need to fit tightly in order to keep the bridge from popping off while you are chewing or even talking, they can wear down the enamel of the adjacent teeth. This can then eventually lead to tooth sensitivity, cavities, and tooth decay.

However, since dental implants rest on posts that are inserted into the gums, they stand alone without affecting the teeth next to them. And, by filling in the spaces, they can actually help hold the adjoining teeth straight, which means that they are less likely to become crooked.

2.  Implants Require Less Care than Bridges

Another advantage of dental implants over bridges is that the implants do not require as much care. When you have bridges, you must treat them separately from the rest of your teeth. You will need to remove them to brush them if you want to clean their entire surfaces. Also, you will have to periodically soak them to ensure that all food particles and bacteria are removed.

However, since implants become a permanent part of your mouth, you do not have anything to take out when it comes time to brush your teeth. While you may have to be careful when you first have them inserted, such as using a soft toothbrush and gingerly flossing around them, implants are cared for the same way as you care for the teeth already in your mouth. Simply brush, floss, and use mouthwash to keep them clean instead of having to take them out each time like you have to with bridges.

After learning about the advantages of getting dental implants as opposed to bridges, you may be ready to learn more about how to proceed. If so, contact a dentist who offers dental implant services to further explain the process, as well as your options.
